Shattered Reality

Soul
At the end of my last play session last night, this is how my villain Soul appears now who I also managed to get to level 10. I am kind of glad for the changes in head gear because for a moment, my girlfriend did point out he sort of looked like Spawn. Now don't get me wrong, that is cool and everything... but I think I'd want my bad guy to be more then a resurrected guy who is obsessed over his wife and is just too damn emotional. Anyway, am I hooked? Kind of. There are some things about this that is fun and interesting, while there are other things that hopefully will get addressed in the coming weeks. I'll get more to all of that in just a moment...

First off, I did rather like the character creation process at the start of all this madness. But like with most games with such options, I always wished there was just MORE options to choose from. More costumes options, more powers, etc, etc, etc. But setting aside the mad creator in me, the choices available are a pretty decent line up and everyone running or flying about do look unique as far as I've seen.

Of the 3 mobilities options, I've tried flight and acrobatics and I'd chose flight without question. It is just damn fun to be able to take off and just fly up, up and away! If timed right, it does have the potential to save your ass if you ever get outnumbered (happens to me fairly often). As for acrobatics, I just don't find that all that fun or interesting and I think it looks kind of weird... maybe that improves as you level up (that character, a hero, is only at level 3).

One odd option that surprised me was the choice to be able to choose a default appearance for your hero or villain. It was unexpected, but welcomed because I kind of wondered why I spent so much time on this guy's appearance and maybe 5-10 minutes in, it all changed?! But this way, you can pick and chose what you'd like your character to appear wearing.

The selection of powers seem OK, but I am still getting used to the regular attacks. Those attacks are done by different combination of mouse clicks, which is kind of weird for me and I can't say I care for it when I am being pounded and can't get the right move off to save my life.

As for the social aspect, I haven't tried to find a league nor have I tried to form my own. The one thing that I hate about games like MMOs is having to rely on others to do missions. I don't really have any friends playing these games, so usually that does mean I'm pretty screwed if I ever wish to do more then just the basic quests and such. But as I always tend to do, I will try to solo through this game as far as I can go and see how far I can get before I get burnt out and never really want to play this thing again.

All in all though, I have been enjoying myself for the most part and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. It will be interesting to see where the game is taken in the coming weeks, with the inevitable patches and updates that will be dropping in.
