Wrestling, Sports Entertainment, Whatever You Wanna Call It

I make it no secret that I watch wrestling. I've watched for years and despite what people say about it or what they think, its like an addiction. I can't explain the how or the why, but it just is.

Still, it really hasn't been the last... at least not the past few years. Like for the WWE, I guess the changes are because much of their big names have left.

The last few Raw shows I had watched just made me bored out of my mind. It's like every week its the same damn thing. Tag team matches for main events and I got sick of seeing nothing but those male cheerleaders the Spirit Squad. I don't hate them because they are "heels," I dislike them because they aren't even entertaining to watch. Who wants to see a 5 on 1 attack or a 5 on 2 every week? Whoa, sorry... fell asleep just thinking about it.

Smackdown isn't too far behind... what is up with all that goofy stuff they do? King Booker? What? I think his run with the title is a few years too late. Wouldn't it had been something had he won the title back at Wrestlemania 19?

I just got through watching Chris Benoit's DVD and I had taken the time to rewatch the few of his old matches. It reminds me just how good that guy really is. Now I wonder if he'll ever be able to add another World title to his resume or maybe the WWE title? Or who knows, maybe even the NWA Championship...?

I'm still not sure what the deal with the new ECW is about yet. They don't seem to really have a show going yet, just rather a few thin stories and a couple of matches here and there. I read it some where and it was something I agreed with, ECW could use another title at the very least and, like the arguement is made for TNA, a longer show.

To a certain extent, ECW resembles the old Smackdown when it was under Stephanie McMahon's control. That being, there was more about wrestling rather then a bunch of goofy stuff that really isn't even entertaining. I hope they can continue on that trend and hopefully some day become a true show in itself.

Then there is TNA.

I admit it wasn't love at first sight, because the first PPV I had gotten of theirs wasn't exactly a thrilling show. Reminded me of the old WWE/WWF PPVs I ordered when I was a kid. 3 hours of snoring. Anyway, I ended up liking what I saw when I first started to watch them when they got onto SpikeTV.

But then I noticed how basically it seemed like the only thing that got much of any thought was the NWA Championship. The X-Division, which I had heard was their center piece, was basically reduced to random, thrown together guys who fought for what? Nothing from the sounds of it. I say that because it seemed the X-Division champ would always be fighting against someone else, rather then against these guys that were having matches.

I liked watching Chris Sabin before this supposed attitude/attire change. I think I was originally drawn into the promise that these guys were more wrestling, less talking. So what happened? I enjoyed an old match that was on TNA's Best of the X-Division. It was between Chris Sabin and "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Good match, wish those two could have feuded while Daniels was the champ.

Speaking of Christopher Daniels, I liked his battles against AJ Styles. The Iron Man match was incredible, so was their triple threat match with Samoa Joe. Hell, I like their tag team, regardless of them being destroyed nearly every time the come into contact with LAX.

I remember my first chance at watching Christopher Daniels in action. I had gotten the DVD for Ring of Honor's first PPV. The match was Low Ki verses The American Dragon and Christopher Daniels. Made me wish I could get more of their DVDs, if their shows were all like that first PPV, if not better.

Pretty safe to say, I'd rather see better in-ring action over the dull talkers these days. Back when there were guys like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, that's when the talking was interesting. It grabbed your attention. Thinking back, whenever I think back to the battles those two guys had against each other. It reminds me of their in-ring singing and ultimately their duet that ended with The Rock hitting Austin with a Rockbottom. Good, entertaining stuff.

Ok, that's it for me. That's all... my brain has gone overkill on this wrestling typing stuff for today, something I hadn't done in ages. Next time I'll hopefully come up with something better (and interesting) to actually blabber on about.
