There is disturbing news and then there is disturbing news and this, my friends, takes the cake. You see, apparently Nintendo has a brand new concept to help out their overwhelmingly beloved "casual" crowd.
Now if you should happen upon a game that is just too hard for you to figure out for yourself, stop thinking! Stop trying! Let the game play out that far too difficult level for YOU! Why waste time trying to defeat a boss, get past a hard puzzle, when you can just let the game play with itself (that sounds wrong) and solve everything all by its lonesome!
While I hope this is nothing more then a joke, considering that this is Nintendo and since they are aiming a lot more at people who generally don't touch games... somehow I am thinking it is all too true.
And really, what would be the purpose of the game after this? Obviously any form of challenge has just been absolved. It's like starting up Solitaire and it solves itself, all by itself. Wow, did you just enjoy yourself just then? What kind of gamers would we all be if we needed to merely rely on the game solving all of the problems and not our own god given brains?
An argument was made that this "feature" is aimed at little kids. Way to help the kids out in problem solving eh?
Oh snap! Bowser is shooting fireballs out of his mouths, his ears, his eyes and even his ass! And the Princess is in peril, Luigi is being held prisoner and it's up to Mario to figure out how to save them all, all whilst stopping Bower in the process! What ever shall we do!
SKIP IT! Too hard!
So lame...
Then again, considering the only games Nintendo seems to come out with these days are rehashed versions of Wii Sports and a ton of animal games and stuff that I think I would have killed my parents over, should they have ever tried to force me to play, I guess there really isn't anything to worry about.
Personally, my household has created a game a while back that I think Nintendo may like. Surely it doesn't mean much I suppose, in the grander scheme of things. What is my creation called you wonder? WiiStoppedPlaying! Spectacular thing, this game. A product of pure wonder it is! You see the premise is quite simple really.
The whole purpose? Why, we stopped playing! We stopped buying and now that lovely little Wii system now sits around and accumulates a lot of dust. Just like the GameCube we owned previously! Bloody genius game isn't it! And best of all, I didn't have to buy a fuckton of attachments to use it!
Ah... the wondrous power of an illness. Ever angry at everything in sight. But alas, these words are all too true. Sad really, but I suppose that is the way it will be. I guess it falls onto Sony and Microsoft to save us all from this horrible fate.
Perhaps Nintendo is destined to follow Sega into oblivion someday? Hmm...
