Bodies: The Exhibition

Yesterday my girlfriend and I, while quite unexpectedly, ended up making the effort to see "Bodies: The Exhibition" at the Ala Moana center. While we both had heard and read about it, neither of us had a clue as to where exactly it was taking place. And by sheer dumb luck, we just happened to come across the exhibit while exiting out of Nordstrom.

Visually it is unlike anything I've ever seen before and just knowing what we were seeing was once actual people, it just made the experience that much more meaningful. I mean it has everything from organs, to bones and skeletons, down to the nerves and even fetuses.

I was definitely amazed as to how much effort our bodies put out so that we can do what we do. I mean even the most simplest of tasks can amount to a mountain of work for our bodies. Needless to say, I came out of that exhibit with a new found respect for the human body.

A couple of interesting facts that still stick out in my mind are:

- I didn't know if all of our muscles in our body worked together, it could be possible for us to move 10 tons.

- It will someday be possible for medical treatment to be tailored to our specific genetics.

- A baby has 270 bones, while an adult has just 206.

All in all, I'd say the visit was worth it and the information, along with the visuals, certainly help paint a vivid picture as to how our bodies function and also the amount of work it takes to ensure that we can continue to do so for our lifespan.

Obviously, it was certainly an eye opener for me and definitely a rare (and visual) learning opportunity that I doubt I would have had the chance to experience otherwise. What a way to kick off my little vacation...

Because I find the human body fascinating, I REALLY want to go see that, but I'm afraid I'll get grossed out. My sisters both saw the exhibit when it was in New York and they found it fascinating and told me I'd love it. I think I'll watch Casino Royale again and make my decision. Daniel Craig makes everything better lol. If I remember correctly, the movie makes it seem very sterile and non-gross. Almost statue-like. What do you think?

It really isn't bad at all, though I guess it would help if you don't mind seeing a person's insides. If not, then I could imagine a person getting grossed out by some of what's on display.

To me, it was far more interesting then it ever ended up being gross. You folks should check it out, especially if you're interested in the human body.

Wait, this stuff was in Casino Royale!? Maybe I need to check out the movie just one more time myself (Eva Green is teh awesome)...

Well, I'll be damned! I didn't even notice that and I've watched the movie a few times over.

But no, the Ala Moana exhibit doesn't quite have as many of the posed bodies.
