Hour One: RAGE

Trying out a couple of new things here for this writing (using a cut off point, so maybe I won't have any long winded posts clogging up the entire length of my blog) and hopefully this post will be a little more coherent then my usual fare. I've been trying to gather up my thoughts better on singular subjects, though that ended up being much easier said then done. Anyway, onto my thoughts on my first hour in Rage.

So now that I've gotten through my first hour in Rage, I think I have at least a mild idea of what's ahead. Despite what is being said out there, I can't help but feel like I am on Pandora (Borderlands), though I admit the looks of the Wasteland is quite nice though baron as it might be. I've caught myself admiring the scenery a time or two and both times I've snapped back to find a bandit charging right for me. So note to self: Kill first, admire the scenery later.

The combat isn't too difficult to pick up, though I found myself wasting quite a few bullets during my first several encounters with Bandits. As I would find out shortly after clearing out the first mission, the difference in what type of ammo you use can very well make all the difference in these encounters.

But the game changer arrived when I ran into Loosm Hagar (pictured above) and I'm thinking she is my favorite character that I've encountered so far. The reasoning behind this is quite simple: she introduces you to the Wingstick, a nifty little weapon that is basically like a boomerang that'll take the head off of your enemy or will stop the common foe dead in his tracks. Combat has gotten a little more manageable thanks to this handy secondary weapon.

Now as far as quests/jobs are concerned, I didn't run into anything overly original or anything that deviated away from fetch quests or go to area X and kill everything that moves. I suppose that also helps point me back to Borderlands, as a good majority of those quests were generally the same also.

The driving bits that I've seen have been pretty straight forward so far, though I agree with what the reviews have said about this in that the handling and controls for vehicles is great. Jumping onto the ATV and driving out of town felt natural. Up until I hit a barrier and watched my guy get launched off and crashing into a structure.

Ouch.

But beyond that, the vehicles handle like a dream and I understand that these can even be upgraded. Just thinking about that makes me thing I'll like the racing portion of this game (whenever that pops up). And really, the same can be said for the rest of the game as well. If it plays as well as it has been in this opening hour, I can't see how I wouldn't have fun with this especially knowing that these guns have different ammo types that can change the flow of combat in an instant. Plus with beautiful visuals and a bit of story and a touch of mystery, how can anyone go wrong?

Heh, I'll find out soon enough first hand I'm sure.
