There Be Dragons!
So my sessions have shorten down a little, I think mostly because I'm actually starting to be able to fast travel between places and that speeds things up some. That isn't to say that I've given up exploring, which I spent much of today doing. I've come across trolls and vampires and abandoned prisons in some extremely out of the way type of places.
I even advanced a little in the story, picking up some cool new tricks in the process. But I was not satisfied, because something very important was missing and I just didn't feel right about it not being there. What was this you may or may not wonder?
The one thing that was lacking was dragons! Where were the dragons? Why were they not terrorizing the skies as I imagine these awesome beasts to be doing?
I did come across my first and only dragon as a part of the story some hours back, but I thought they were supposed to be flying all around? I did actually see one outside of Whiterun, but I simply couldn't get it's attention and so there was no fighting or soul absorbing to be had at all. I was starting to believe I might have had a glitch of some sort, which may or may not be in the realm of possibility.
Then it happened...
Previously I had taken to asking the barkeep if he knew of any work I could partake. He passed a bounty note about a dragon in the mountains. Ah ha! Back in business!
So wander about as I went, I set the marker to the general area of this dragon and just set out to see what I'd uncover. Besides a few ice wraiths and a troll here and there, I neither saw nor heard any dragon near or around me. Not that I could complain because everywhere I went, the scenes were beautiful and the music was awesome. But I pressed forward, in hope that I would find the beast that I came looking for. Then I heard a roar in the sky and a smile crept across my face.
At last!
The battle was atop a snowy mountaintop and it was a close fight to be sure. I had to use every trick I had learned and even that barely won me the battle. This bugger had ice breath and it was not shy about using it on me any and every chance that it got. But at last indeed! I was more then thrilled to have my first battle against a dragon on my own and I fully intended on bringing this thing down. It took a lot of potions and healing spells, but the battle was won. With that I've put away my first dragon and unlocking the usage of a new shout was very rewarding.
But the fun didn't end there, not in the slightest...
As I set back down the mountain, I placed a marker to move onto another side quest I had picked up and quickly made my way down the side of the mountain. Then I hear that newly familiar sound yet again; another dragon!
This fight went a bit better then my previous, much to my surprise to be honest. I thought I was a dead man for sure! The dragon held the advantage whilst it remaining in the sky, this one had the classic fire breathing attack which burnt my character's ass quite well. But once it made the mistake to land it was all mine. And after some effort, I fell my second dragon in a span of literally 10-15 minutes!
Surely if this is the kind of pace that this game intends to set, then things will surely be quite interesting in the hours to come. On a side note, lugging around bones and scales from 2 dragons was more then enough to ensure that my character wouldn't be so much as running off that mountain. Thankfully I had a potion handy that briefly raises my carrying capacity and I fast traveled home to unload the bones of my recent bounties.
Last little thought for now? As hyped as I was for this game to begin with, I never expected to enjoy the game as much as I am right now. Awesome does some work to describe this, but man this is a game unlike anything I've played in any recent history.
Okay that's enough babbling, I've got a horn to find, a legend to look into and perhaps a dragon to fell...
