Lara Croft And The Guardian of Light has been out there for a while now and truth be told I have been wanting to at least give this game a try for a while now. But the price kind of drove me away, not wanting to pick up yet another downloadable game that I wouldn't like and ultimately won't play more then once or twice at best. This changed up pretty quick with this deal of the week business on Xbox Live and at 600 points, it wasn't too deep of an investment.
So naturally I've taken the plunge.
And you know what? I am actually having some fun here, though I am presently only playing through the single player portion of the game. The combat alone is a little frantic at times and certain areas I was overwhelmed because I was trying to be Rambo amid a small horde. But playing things a little smart and the pace of the game is pretty dang good in my book.
What I really admire about this title is how easy it was to pick up the controls of the game. It wasn't anything complicated at all and in matter of minutes I was playing almost like I had played this game before. Does that work? Maybe I am just getting old in the head and the simple controls are what I am liking more. But I'd like to think that the set up is pretty good here and it makes things a lot easier when the movements of the character on screen is easy to handle and all the weapons are easy to use and switch off as needed.
Beyond this though, I am only in the second portion right now so I can't comment on if the game is a decent adventure or if it is just a quick run. But if things go South and the game ends in the next area or two, expect to see something said about that here.
I am slowly easing into the Lara Croft/Tomb Raider series only because I am actually pretty interested in this reboot that Square Enix is heading up with Crystal Dynamics. Now while I haven't seen any solid release dates, I am liking the tone of the game and the idea of a reboot here seems well placed. I think I am most curious to see where Lara will go beyond this reboot, since I've read a lot of interviews and such that claim that she won't be going the way of previous iterations. Does that mean that all previous games don't exist in this new world? Hmmm...
